The PROCESs

CONSULTATIONS

The initial consultations are casual, collaborative and informative.
We meet at the client's home or business to assess the space, determine the scope of work involved, and discuss the final aspects of the project.
We may have some immediate creative design ideas which will be shared during this visit.
This provides a sense of confidence that both Transitions and the client are on the "same page" with the concept.
The initial complimentary consultation is limited to 1 hour.

THE CLIENT's ROLE

At this stage, the client has retained the services with our firm.
The client will provide responses to inquiries regarding the use, users, and desired character of the spaces.
We will request that the client flag magazine photos of room interiors that appeal to them.

This will provide a strong starting point for the Transitions team and the next phase of design.

THE DESIGNER

DEBBY SMITH

Founder

Debby Smith grew up in a small southerntown where she experienced casual charm and elegance in Architecture and Interior Design. In her teenage years her parents purchased a southern colonial home in need of extensive TLC. She couldn’t understand the logic in that decision until the renovation process began. She looked on and soon became enthralled as her mother, a local artist, began working with a family friend and interior decorator making selections of fixtures, finishes, furniture and fabrics. Watching as the home was completely gutted and transformed, becoming a beautifully warm and inviting home, gave her a thrill which lead her to choosing interior design as her life’s profession.
Debby studied interior design at Samford University earning a Bachelor of Science degree. From there she went on to The University of Alabama where she earned a master’s degree in interior design knowing that she would someday like the opportunity to teach others the wonders of design. Upon graduation, the sunny shores of South Florida were calling her name. The building industry was booming and the area was growing, making it the perfect place for a young woman to begin her interior design career. Fort Lauderdale became Debby’s home and there she stayed raising her family, practicing interior design and even teaching design at the college level for several years. She also holds a Florida state professional license in interior design allowing her firm to practice commercial as well as residential design.
Debby still gets that thrill that she felt as a teenager when the interior design transformation is complete, hence the name of her company, Transitions Interior Design.

"In 2016,  I did a complete redo of my living/dining room area.  Lucky for me Debby came along and breezed me through the process with outstanding results. It is no wonder that in 2018 when I decided to redo my kitchen, Debby once again was my go - to person.  I couldn't be happier with  my beautiful new kitchen!"
