Transitions’ principal, Kim Kangas, is an allied member of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID). She founded Transitions Interior Design with the philosophy that design should be budget-conscious, flexible and fun!
Kim graduated with a business degree from the University of Minnesota’s prestigious Carlson School of Management. After twelve years in
accounting and finance, she decided to pursue her interior design dream. She received her degree and her design career took flight at two of the Twin
Cities’ top firms. She spent her first five years in the industry working as an assistant at William BesonInterior Design (now Beson Kading Design) working with design teams for both Billy Beson and Bruce Kading, and then moved to the David Heide Design Studio as a design associate.
While in design school, Kim also worked for a small construction firm, where she designed room layouts for remodels, second story additions, half-story bump-outs and bathroom projects. An understanding of structural and spatial relationships is the perfect complement to Kim’s design aesthetic. She has an intuitive, realistic sense of how furniture can best be arranged in a room to maximize both form and function.
Taking her experience with luxury, high-end design, Kim started Transitions Interior Design with the belief that everyone deserves to live in a space that is welcoming and reflects what’s important to them. Her favorite part is turning someone’s house into their home! She loves creating living spaces that not only mirror the homeowner’s style and personality, but are functional and livable too. Kim firmly believes that great style and a great space can be achieved with any budget.
